more isn't always better

Parents:
take a moment to review what's in those combination medicines!

Teresa Kammerman, M.D. of the Pediatricenter of Greater Cleveland wrote to flaame.org with a concern about the labeling of-over-the counter fever reducers for children.  Parents are often confused over the differences between Tylenol Plus and regular Tylenol.  She noted, “Tylenol Plus is often given by parents [to small children], without realizing that it contains cold medications too.”  She noted that many parents give their children Tylenol Plus in addition to other over-the-counter cold medications, something that can be very dangerous to small infants.

flaame.org encourages adults to consider the ingredients in all such over-the-counter medications, whether administering them to infants, children, teens or self.

According to www.tylenol.com, Tylenol Children and Infants’ products include:

Infants’ Tylenol
Children's Tylenol
Jr Tylenol
Infants' Tylenol Plus Cold
Infants’ Tylenol Plus Cold & Cough
Children's Tylenol Plus Cough & Runny Nose
Children's Tylenol Plus Cough & Sore Throat
Children’s Tylenol Plus Multi-Symptom Cold
Children’s Tylenol Plus Cold
Children’s Tylenol Plus Cold & Allergy
Children’s Tylenol Plus Flu

On the Tylenol web site, Tylenol notes they are using a new decongestant and that the frequency of administration has also changed.  Please visit www.tylenol.com for details.

PLEASE NOTE:

Motrin Cold is also a combination product which should be administered with care.  It too contains additional medications to address multiple symptoms (www.motrin.com).
